Alberto Ponticelli, Avatar, Batman Incorporated, Ben Templesmith, Canaan White, Carlos Magno, China Mieville, Chris Burnham, Daredevil: Dark Nights, Dark Horse, DC Comics, Dean Motter, Deathmatch, Dial H, Emily and the Strangers, Grant Morrison, Howard Chaykin, Image, J. Michael Straczynski, Justin Jordan, Kieron Gillen, Lee Weeks, Matt Fraction, Mister X: Eviction, Neil Edwards, Paul Jenkins, Satellite Sam, Shadowman, Ten Grand, Uber, Valiant

A welcome break from the heatwave.

  • Emily and the Strangers #3 (Dark Horse): Finally, the finale!
  • Mister X: Eviction #3 (Dark Horse): I’m pretty confident that this series will make our Top Ten List for 2013.  Oh, and another stunning cover:
Mister X: Eviction #3

Mister X: Eviction #3

  • Batman Incorporated #12 (DC): #11 was a flipping disaster.  Good news: looks like we’re back to the all-important business of Bat vengeance.
Batman Incorporated #12

Batman Incorporated #12

  • Dial H #14 (DC): It pains me to say this: it’s the penultimate issue.
  • Satellite Sam #1 (Image): May as well give it a shot.  I’ve enjoyed FF and Hawkeye enough.  Oh, and, by the way, Howard Chaykin.  Hope it doesn’t prove as unfulfilling as Casey’s Sex.
Satellite Sam #1

Satellite Sam #1

  • Ten Grand #3 (Image): Yeah, sure: on the strength–a stronger word than I wanted to use, really–of #2, it’s earned another.  Why not, right?
  • Daredevil: Dark Nights #2 (Marvel): #1 delivered some interesting moments with extra cheese.  I’m not entirely sold on it; but I’m willing to lease.
  • Deathmatch #7 (BOOM!): I dunno, man.  I still dig it.
Deathmatch #7

Deathmatch #7

  • Shadowman #8 (Valiant): Behind the first batch of Valiant books, sure; but, by golly, its darned good.  Strange: at the end of each issue, I’m still surprised by how much I like what I’ve read.
  • Uber #3 (Avatar): I figure, since I’m killing off Suicide Risk, I can suffer another one of these.

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

Scott

What a way to kick off summer break! How’s twenty books sound?

  • The Massive #13 (Dark Horse): Garry Brown–the artist on the “Black Pacific” arc–is back, thank goodness. One of my favorite titles. So gloriously understated in the classic Wood style.
The Massive #13

The Massive #13

  • Mind MGMT #12 (Dark Horse): Another one of my favorite titles for all the right reasons.
  • Adventures of Superman #2 (DC): We loved the first issue. The first two stories–from Parker, Samnee, and Lemire–are more Superman than anything we’ve seen in the New 52 this side of a few magical Morrison moments.
  • Batman/Superman #1 (DC): You got your Batman in my Superman. You got your Superman in my Batman. Yet another opportunity for DC to get these heroes right. First indication it may work: Scott Snyder’s not involved. Second: Jae Lee is.
Batman/Superman #1

Batman/Superman #1

  • Justice League of America #5 (DC): At this point, it’s one issue at a time. The Catwoman cliffhanger caught me. Go figure.
  • The Wake #2 (DC/Vertigo): Not excited about this in the least. I’d like to think that this issue will change that.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #23 (IDW): A comic-day decision. Only bought the last one to support an I&N favorite Mateus Santoluoco. The art was great, but the book as a whole didn’t grab me.
  • Clone #8 (Image): Still doing its thing–it’s oft outlandish thing.
  • Fatale #15 (Image): Another top title. After a terrific series of one-shots, It’s time for a new arc. Expecting nothing but brilliance from Brubaker and Phillips.
Fatale #15

Fatale #15

  • Lazarus #1 (Image): Lots of hype leading up to this one from Greg Rucka and Michael Lark. You’d have to be dead to have missed it. Don’t worry: odds are good this book’ll bring you back to life. I am stoked!
Lazarus #1

Lazarus #1

  • Jupiter’s Legacy #2 (Image): Derek’ll let me have it for even considering it. Sure, we hated the first one; but sometimes it takes two, you know? I’ll definitely flip through it.
  • All-New X-Men #13 (Marvel): I’ve liked some things Bendis has done. I’ve hated others. Still waiting to love it, though–and gosh do I want to. Maybe the crossover that’s comin’…
  • FF #8 (Marvel): I really enjoyed last issue. And to think I almost called it quits after a pretty terrible #6. Just missed being in our Top 5 for May!
  • Fury: My War Gone By #13 (Marvel): A great week of books gets even better with the finale of Ennis and Parlov’s hard-edged history lesson. Gonna be very sad to see it go, though–especially because its passing means a little less Ennis.
  • Daredevil #27 (Marvel): I think we can all agree that the return of Bullseye was a given from the get-go. The nature of his return, however? Not as expected. Yeah, I think Waid really nailed it. Can’t wait to see how it plays out.
Daredevil #27

Daredevil #27

  • Uncanny X-Men #7 (Marvel): As disappointing a diversion as I could imagine. Dormammu? No thank you. And still I buy.
  • X-Men #2 (Marvel): More Wood! #1 worked itself out well enough. Certainly earned another go-round.
  • Hawkeye #11 (Marvel): Yup: I’m jumpin’ on the monthly bandwagon. Sure, I can’t crack it open until after I get and read Vol. 2; but it’s all–not just a fraction–good. Hey, Derek! Quit being such a hater! Try Vol. 1 already!
  • Uncanny #1 (Dynamite): Haven’t necessarily cared for what I’ve seen from Diggle of late. (Snapshot was only OK, and his only full issue on Action wasn’t very good.). But I’m willing to give this a try.
Uncanny #1

Uncanny #1

  • X-O Manowar #14 (Valiant): Last issue was definitely a step up.

What are you looking forward to this week?

No let-up this week, eh?  It’s looking more and more like my flood gates are effin’ faulty.

  • Harbinger #13 (Valiant): Dysart’s drummin’ up some deliciously dangerous super-team drama.  Consistently better than the big guys’ team books.
Harbinger #13

Harbinger #13

  • Bloodshot #12 (Valiant): Revenge is in the air.  Not so thrilled with Kitson here; he’s been serviceable at best.
  • Dream Thief #2 (Dark Horse): We liked #1–from dreamers Jai Nitz and Greg Smallwod–a lot.  Hope it doesn’t turn into a nightmare.
Dream Thief #2

Dream Thief #2

  • Animal Man #21 (DC): Gosh, I hope this goes somewhere.  The last issue was a promise of sorts; so, we’ll see.
  • Batman and Batgirl #21 (DC): Tomasi’s won me over–for now, anyway.  I’ve certainly liked it more than Batman.
Batman and Batgirl #21

Batman and Batgirl #21

  • Batwoman #21 (DC): Yeah, I know.  Hey, maybe it’s a good thing I’ve stuck around: I see that Francesco Francavilla’s on art duties.
  • Wonder Woman #21 (DC): Still good enough to bring me back for another.
  • Mara #5 (Image): Riding this one out out of respect for Brian Wood.
  • Mind the Gap #11 (Image): If you’re not minding Jim McCann, you’re out of your damn mind.  My first monthly investment.  Perfect timing, too: Vol. 2 comes out tomorrow!  (Thanks to Menachem from Escape Pod Comics for the heads-up!)
Mind the Gap #11

Mind the Gap #11

  • Revival #11 (Image): #10 ended on a great note.
  • Indestructible Hulk #9 (Marvel): If it weren’t for Daredevil, I might be off it after the Thor debacle.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #24 (Marvel): I’ve always loved Cloak and Dagger.  Mostly Dagger.  David Marquez on art is a selling point.  Ultimate Power Pack?  Yeah, not so much.
Ultimate Spider-Man #24

Ultimate Spider-Man #24

  • The Sixth Gun #32 (Oni): Will have a nice little stack by the time Vol. 5 comes out.  Gots me an itchy trigger finger!
  • Sons of the Gun #4 (Oni): Oh, this’ll have to tide me over.
  • Extinction Parade #1 (Avatar): A Max Brooks zombie book?  I’ll give it a shot–even if it is from Avatar.
Extinction Parade #1

Extinction Parade #1

  • Wild Blue Yonder #1 (IDW): My Thumber of the Week.  Oh, there’s always one–usually another #1.

Yeah, I’m gonna have to take a deep breath.

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

Ales Kot, American Vampire, Batman, BOOM!, Breath of Bones, Cullen Bunn, Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Duane Swierczynski, Greg Capullo, Half Past Danger, Harbinger Wars, Helheim, IDW, Image Comics, Joe Hill, Joelle Jones, Jonathan Hickman, Nick Pitarra, Patrick Zircher, Scott Snyder, Six-Gun Gorilla, Steve Niles, Suicide Squad, Superman, Superman Unchained, The Manhattan Projects, Thumbprint, Valiant, X, Zero Year

Last week set a high bar: a lot of stand-out books–some confidently staking their claims as Top 5 material.  I don’t see this week topping it, but, no doubt, there’ll be plenty to talk about.

  • Breath of Bones #1 (Dark Horse): Steve Niles?  Yes, please.
Breath of Bones #1

Breath of Bones #1

  • X #2 (Dark Horse): I like a bad-ass vigilante as much as the next guy.  I want to love this, I really do.  I’m gonna give X–and hotshot scribe Duane Swierczynski– another shot at my heart.
  • American Vampire: The Long Road to Hell (DC): Well, well, hell.  The beginning of a big week for Scott Snyder–this one, with a big price tag, by the way.  I’ve really enjoyed American Vampire–which I’ve read in trades through Vol. 4–and am pretty sure I’ll enjoy this all the same.  I know I’ve been somewhat tough on Mr. Snyder of late–specifically for the late Death of the Family–but on AV, Snyder has been epically horrifying.
American Vampire:

  • Batman #21 (DC): Unless you’ve been under a rock–or in a cave–you know all about this one: Snyder and Greg Capullo’s next big storyline: Zero Year.
Batman #21

Batman #21

  • Superman Unchained #1 (DC): Hype very well could be Snyder’s kryptonite.
  • Suicide Squad #21 (DC): Ales Kot talked the Squad off the ledge and then drove ’em right the heck back up there–necessarily–with self-immolation on the brain.
  • The Manhattan Projects #12 (Image): M.I.A. in M.A.Y.  Glad it’s back: it’s easily one of the best books around.
  • Harbinger Wars #3 (Valiant): It’s been OK.  Not as strong as I thought it’d be; but that’s their own fault, really.  Valiant’s been pretty awesome overall.
  • Helheim #4 (Oni): Not quite there yet.  Still willing to wait on it because of my love for The Sixth Gun.
  • Six-Gun Gorilla #1 (BOOM!): A gorilla with a gun.  ‘Nuff said.
Sixth-Gun Gorilla #1

Six-Gun Gorilla #1

  • Half Past Danger #2 (IDW): I liked #1 enough–especially toward the end–to give it another go-round.
  • Thumbprint #1 (IDW): Will probably thumb through it.  Fitting, I know.

Did I miss anything?

I’ll take one of everything, please.

  • Mister X: Eviction #2 (Dark Horse): #1 was one of my favorite books of May.  Looking forward to this–and not just because of its gorgeous cover:
Mister X: Eviction #2

Mister X: Eviction #2

  • Astro City #1 (DC): I don’t have any history with this title, but I’m willing to give it–and Kurt Busiek–a shot.
  • Dial H #13 (DC): The funeral march has begun–for, arguably, DC’s best, certainly most consistently creative, monthly title.
Dial H #13

Dial H #13

  • Bedlam #7 (Image): With it comes a new artist: Ryan Browne.  And just like that, I may become a former reader of Bedlam.  Or I may love it more.  That’s why we read ’em, folks.
  • East of West #3 (Image): I’d really like this to knock my socks off the way Hickman’s own The Manhattan Projects does.  Chances are it won’t, but I’d still like to like it.  #2 was a decent step in that direction.
  • Ten Grand #2 (Image): Sure, JMS is a name, but this story seems like it could be just more of the same.  If #2 breaks away from the pack, even just a bit, I’ll stick with it.  If not, I’m off.
  • All-New X-Men #12 (Marvel): It is what it is–or even slightly less than that now that Brian Wood’s in X-Town.
  • Daredevil: Dark Nights #1 (Marvel): Just what I need: another DD mini by a DD legend–in this case, Lee Weeks.  Oy.
Daredevil: Dark Nights #1

Daredevil: Dark Nights #1

  • Daredevil: End of Days #8 (Marvel): A real surprise.  With the names on it, shouldn’t’ve been; but I don’t think anyone expected it to be this good.
  • Winter Soldier #19 (Marvel): Last issue whispered, “Don’t leave yet.”
  • Archer & Armstrong #10 (Valiant): Consistently solid.
  • Red Team #3 (Dynamite): Damn thing’s gonna take off.  I can feel it.  Check out the cover, for God’s sake.  I have a joke about it that doesn’t really work, but I’m gonna throw it out there anyway: Jesus Christ!  Talk about having someone in your cross hairs!
Red Team #3

Red Team #3

  • Rachel Rising #17 (Abstract Studio): Terry Moore’s rising, too.  No one does panel-to-panel suspense better than this guy.
  • Shadowman #7 (Valiant): No longer in the shadow of the other Valiant books.  In fact, it’s starting to cast its own, thanks to Justin Jordan and Patrick Zircher.
  • Suicide Risk #2 (BOOM!): #1 wasn’t remarkable–or if it was, it wasn’t for the right reasons.  To be fair, I’ll give it one more try.
  • Uber #2 (Avatar): Same here.

What are you looking forward to this week?

OK.  So, this is it: the sprint I’ve been training for.

Don’t blink.

Listerine

  • Fatale #14 (Image): Did you notice: Fatale didn’t make our Top 5 Books of April?  Yeah: that’s because it didn’t come out in April!  Can’t imagine it won’t make the cut for May.  A one-shot, sure–and, indeed, the last; but these boys–the brilliant Brubaker, Phillips, and Stewart–are going into it with a loaded drum mag.
Fatale #14

Fatale #14

  • Ultimate Spider-Man #23 (Marvel): Is this series–this spectacular character–being cheapened by its borrowing too much from Peter Parker’s story?
Ultimate Spider-Man #23

Ultimate Spider-Man #23

  • X-O Manowar #13 (Valiant): #12 wasn’t very good.
  • Bloodshot #11 (Valiant): In fact, the weakest Valiant week since the relaunch was last month’s X-O and Bloodshot.  The stories sort of stood in place.  The underwhelming art from Cary Nord and Barry Kitson–and their respective finishing crews–didn’t help any, that’s for sure.  Let’s hope we’re pedal to the metal with this week’s offerings.
  • Helheim #3 (Oni Press): New to the ol’ pull-list; but it seems the only way I can guarantee that I’ll leave the shop with a copy.
Helheim #3

Helheim #3

Quick Pick-Me-Ups

  • Dream Thief #1  (Dark Horse): Here’s hoping that this Dark Horse mini doesn’t end up like the recently wrapped up Colder.  What a hot mess!
Dream Thief #1

Dream Thief #1

  • Batwoman #20 (DC): How the flighty have fallen!  Once a pull-list darling, Batwoman is now, sadly, a comic-day decision.  Yes, I am aware: J.H. Williams is still writing.

Where’s Nancy When You Need Her?

  • Wonder Woman #20 (DC): Not too sure if I’ll be able to say No when the time comes.  I want to be able to make a clean break, just like I did with Swamp Thing and Action; I really do!  I know how it’ll go down: I’ll pick it up after collecting the others and I’ll be like, Geez.  Only seven books?  Another won’t break me.  I mean, it’s only three bucks, for goodness sake, so…

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

What’s Up?

Things are looking up.  Don’t believe me?  Look down.

May Will Be’s

  • Dial H #12 (DC): WTF, indeed!  A return to early form with some seriously convoluted explanations.  Was cute then.  Not so cute now.  Despite that, still intriguing and inventive–and the only DC book left on my pull-list.  I mean, look at this cover for crying out loud!

STK529261

  • Animal Man #20 (DC): After a few duds, Buddy’s singing for his supper–or at least for his place at my ever-shrinking dinner table.  Maybe—just maybe–with the Rot in the rear view mirror, Jeff Lemire will be able to return to his wheelhouse.
  • Green Arrow #20 (DC): Hey!  A double-shot of Lemire!  Not as exciting as a double-shot of Ennis–or even Hickman at this point–if I’m being honest.  He’s kept me around, however, by making the Green Arrow/Kimodo conflict not unlike the classic Daredevil/Bullseye rivalry that I love so much.  He’s also made me feel uncomfortable–terribly so a times–with the insinuation of Kimodo’s effervescently violent daughter.  It takes a lot to affect me like that; so, this issue’s earned my attention.
Green Arrow #20

Green Arrow #20

  • All-New X-Men #11 (Marvel): Hope it’s a better date than its little sister.  Yeah, Uncanny #5 didn’t do it for me.
  • Indestructible Hulk #7 (Marvel): Attuma was enough of a drag.  #6 was like hitting the brakes as hard and as unexpectedly as can be.  Waid gets a long leash, but sheesh!  I get it’s Simonson doing Thor.  But here?  Now?  Ugh.
  • Harbinger Wars #2 (Valiant): So far, so good.
Harbinger Wars #2

Harbinger Wars #2

  • Shadowman #0 (Valiant): Surprisingly good month after month.

Comic Day Decisions

  • Mister X: Eviction #1 (Dark Horse): Picked up the recent One-Shot.  Liked it enough to put this on the radar.  Dean Motter’s work is certainly worth a look–probably even a read.
Mister X: Eviction #1

Mister X: Eviction #1

  • Movement #1 (DC): I’ll thumb through it–if only because it’s a #1 and because Gail Simone’s attached to it.
  • Ten Grand #1 (Image): J. Michael Straczynski is always worth a shot.  When he’s on, he’s as solid as they come.
  • Hawkeye #10 (Marvel): I’ve still got to get through Vol. 1.  May be worth jumping on the monthly bandwagon.  May make more sense to wait for the next trade.  We’ll see.
  • Winter Soldier #18 (Marvel): Kicked it off the pull-list a few months back but have been picking it up nevertheless.  Was digging it up until the last issue.  May choose to ride out the arc.  May decide to just cut the cord now.
  • Black Bat #1 (Dynamite): Will judge this one on the art.  If it grabs me, I’ll grab it.  Brian Boucellato’s work on The Flash wasn’t strong enough to make this a must have.
  • Suicide Risk #1 (BOOM!): Mike Carey’s name, however, is enough here.  I liked Lucifer back in the day and enjoyed what I’ve read of The Unwritten.
Suicide Risk #1

Suicide Risk #1

I may leave the store with no more than ten books.

Uh huh.

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

Scott

I like long lists and I cannot lie.  (I know, I know: I’ve been talking a big game about cutting down my weekly haul.  In fact, I have been trimming off some dead ends; I really have been. Thing is, for each book I cut out, another two sprout up in its place.  It’s not fair!  Not that I have to buy them.  OK, who am I fooling?  Of course I do!  I have to have them to surrrrrrviiiiiiiiive!)

  • The Answer #4 (Dark Horse): Has been lots of fun.  Can’t believe it’s going to end here.
  • The Massive #11 (Dark Horse): A new obsession of mine–on the strength of Dark Horse’s #1 for $1 campaign.
The Massive #11

The Massive #11

  • Mind MGMT #10 (Dark Horse): Hasn’t been up to par of late.  Or maybe it has been, and that’s the problem.  I can’t tell anymore!  Must be tough for a series to carry such a burden of expectations.  Isn’t fair to expect Kindt to keep raising the bar with every new issue, is it?  But I still do.
  • Batman Incorporated #10 (DC): Continuing the Great Batman Hijacking.  Kudos, Mr. Morrison, kudos.
  • Clone #6 (Image): This title was supposed to end up on the cutting room floor.  Instead, I find myself infected with renewed interest on the strength of a pretty decent #5.  Curse your cliffhangers, David Schulner!
  • East of West #2 (Image): Willing to let it build–especially now that I’m high on Hickman’s The Manhattan Projects.  (Yup: that’s why they make the trades, folks–for fools like me.)
  • Jupiter’s Legacy #1 (Image): Swore I was done with Millar after Secret Service.  I also swore I wouldn’t spend more than twenty bucks a week on comics.
Jupiter's Legacy #1

Jupiter’s Legacy #1

  • Lost Vegas #2 (Image): #1 was absolutely gorgeous.  Sure, Lee’s artwork overshadowed the story, but McCann did enough to bring me back to the table.  The bet: I’ll like this issue even more.
  • The Manhattan Projects #11 (Image): As I mentioned: I’m still catching up (I’m deep into Vol. 2), but I’m loving every page.  Might as well jump on the monthly bandwagon now!
The Manhattan Projects #11

The Manhattan Projects #11

  • FF #6 (Marvel): Light, airy, sweet: it’s a damn puff pastry!
  • Fury: My War Gone By #11 (Marvel): You’ll never know, Garth, how much I love you/Please don’t take my Fury away.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #22: In #21, Bendis gave me what I wanted: maskless Miles–and more!  I know I can’t get it every time out, but, gosh, when it happens, it’s so good.
  • Uncanny X-Men #5 (Marvel): I’m kinda glad I stuck with this–and with All-New.  While I could do without some of the poorly played goofy stuff, I’m suddenly satisfied with the sister titles and how they’re being woven together.  More important: I’m starting to like Cyclops again.
  • Deathmatch #5 (BOOM!): A frivolous title that is hanging on by a thread–an intriguingly hearty thread.
  • Helheim #2 (Oni Press): Sold out at the distributor?  One of my guys better have this on the damn shelf or so help me!  No, really: I’ll need someone to help me–pay a ridiculous premium for it.  Damn Thursday mark-ups!
  • Rachel Rising #16 (Abstract Studio): #15 wasn’t as powerful as previous issues.  Hey, it’s bound to happen: Moore’s living in the same universe as Kindt over on Mind MGMT.  That bar can be a real bitch.
Rachel Rising #16

Rachel Rising #16

That’s not just a long list.  That’s a really solid list.  May not be a dead end in the bunch.

Might have to leave the scissors in the drawer this week.

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

Scott

The evidence is overwhelming.  The Bloated Two are losing my interest–and, as result, my business.  But, as you can see by my list, I’m going to end up with a bloated bag anyway.

  • Batwoman #19 (DC): Pretty much ready to ditch it.  The selling point–Mr. Williams III’s images–has become a period, ending my run, too.

  • Wonder Woman #19 (DC): #18 was pretty terrible on the art front and on the writing front.  Not a good sign; but could be a hiccup.  We’ll see.
  • Five Ghosts #2 (Image): The first one wasn’t as engaging as I had hoped it’d be.  Willing to give it another shot, however.
  • Mara #4 (Image): I’ve made it this far.
  • Revival #9 (Image): #8 was a return to form.  Plenty of plot threads to tug at.

  • Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth #4 (Image): Thank goodness!
  • Daredevil #25 (Marvel): Still Marvel’s best

  • Bloodshot #10 (Valiant): Has been pretty darned good of late.  Now: Harbinger Wars.
  • X-O Manowar #12 (Valiant): Has come back to life with Planet Death!
  • The Shadow: Year One #2 (Dynamite): Wasn’t bad.  Liked #1 more than I liked Ennis’s turn with the same character.  Also liked it more than Waid’s Green Hornet. Wonder if I’m the only one.
  • The Sixth Gun #30 (Oni): I’ve read Vols. 1-4.  Waiting for Vol. 5, sure; but I’m going to start my monthly obsession now.  Odds are good, however, I’ll let it sit around until I’m caught up.

  • The Sixth Gun: Sons of the Gun #3 (Oni): A must for any serious fan of The Sixth Gun.  I may be late to the party, but Bunn and Hurtt have hooked me hard!

That oughta keep me from my responsibilities for a while.

What’s Up?

Thank God!  Looks like a light week–a light yet pivotal week.  Knew this week was coming.  Doesn’t make it any easier.  Saying goodbye to a former pull-list stalwart is never as easy as just leaving it on the shelf.  You know I’m going to pick them up.  You know I’m going to flip through them.  You know there’s going to be something about them: the way their pages feel on my fingers; the way they smell…

Sitting in My Bag in the Shop

  • Animal Man #19 (DC): Rotworld is a thing of the past.  Let’s see what Lemire can do now that he’s free of Snyder’s swampy grip.
  • Dial H #11 (DC): Nelson and Roxie sittin’ in a tree/As much fun as a comic can be.
Dial H #11

Dial H #11

  • Bedlam #6 (Image): Spencer’s won me over.
  • Harbinger Wars #1 (Valiant): Yes, please.

Harbinger Wars #1

  • Shadowman #6 (Valiant): Still liking it more than I thought I would.  Probably more than I should.
  • Winter Soldier #17 (Marvel): See Shadowman.  No, really: Latour’s surprised me–especially following Brubaker, the character’s creator!  It’s my experience with books like this that make me think it’s worth hanging on for at least one more.  (See below.)

No Prob Picks

  • Green Arrow #19 (DC): Lemire made me uncomfortable enough with #18 to warrant another go-round.  (Just for the record, that ain’t easy to do; so kudos to Mr. Lemire.)
  • Snapshot #3 (Image): I’m a notorious limited series finisher–especially four-issue minis–whether I’m really taken by #1 or not.  While I was not enthralled by #1, Diggle brought enough to #2 to make me look forward to this one.

  • Indestructible Hulk #6 (Marvel): Nervous about the direction its headed, even if it’s only a digression; but, Waid’s worth it.
  • Kill Shakespeare: Tide of Blood #2 (IDW): Didn’t love the first one.  Thought it was kind of a mess, actually.  Something intriguing, though, about the pages being “mirrored.”

Know When to Say When

  • Action Comics #19 (DC): Morrison’s gone–and along with him, a major draw to this book.  But this is the beginning of the Diggle Debacle.  Major rubbernecking potential.
  • Swamp Thing #19 (DC): Snyder’s gone–and along with him…
  • All-New X-Men #10 (Marvel): Time for me to man up.

What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
