bag, Batwoman, Brian Azzarello, Brian Michael Bendis, Cliff Ciang, comics, Daredevil, DC Comics, J.H. Williams III, Mark Waid, Marvel, Miles Morales, Paolo Rivera, Sara Pichelli, Spider-Men, Tuesday, Ultimate Spider-Man, Wonder Woman

I’m marveling at the list: a short one, indeed.

Blind Trust

  • Daredevil #18: The Coyote comes to the big city.  Seems his bite might actually be a helluva lot worse.
  • Spider-Men #5: Loved #4 so much that Scott Lobdell could be a surprise guest writer on this and I’d still buy it.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #15: I really like Miles.  I bet you do, too.

G.N.O.

  • Batwoman #0: The cover kicks, well, something–maybe your face!  Harvey Award winner J.H. Williams III is the best and is the only reason I’m back on board with the Batbroad.

Batwoman #0 Cover

  • Wonder Woman #0: Looking forward to a revealing story.  If the art’s revealing, too, all the better!

Five books?  Fine with me–and the ol’ wallet.  Looks like I’ll be able to eat this week.

What are you looking forward to?

Scott

I may need some help carrying my bag out of the shop this week.

More Than Zero

  • Batman #0
  • Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #0
  • Suicide Squad #0: Not too sure how much longer I’m sticking with this.

Coo coo ca-choo, Mr. Robinson

  • The Shade #12: You will be missed.  A lot.

The Shade #12 Cover

Funny Business

  • Comedian #3: Dipped a bit after a stellar #1.  Hope it bounces back with a killer punchline.

Marvel Shrinky-Dinks

  • Winter Soldier #10: I’m still all twisted up after the last one.  Unwind me, dammit!  No!  What am I talking about?  Twist me some more!
  • Wolverine and the X-Men #16: Last one was a decent comeback after some terrible AvX tie-ins.

Fat Chance

  • Fatale #8: Brubaker’s baby, baby!  This cradle is most assuredly rockin’.

Soaring with Samnee

  • The Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom #2: The art was the highlight here–a very highlight.  In the stratosphere, even!

X-Oh Yeah!

  • X-O Manowar #5: Suits me just fine.
  • Harbinger #4: Quality, quality, quality.  Valiant’s got it in pspades.

Gee.  Is that it?  I’m gonna need a friggin’ hand truck.

How about you?  What’s gonna be in your bag tomorrow?

Action Comics, Animal Man, Archer & Armstrong, bag, Bendis, Bloodshot, comics, DC Comics, Dial H, Marvel, Swamp Thing, Tuesday, Ultimate Spider-Man, Valiant

It’s that time of the week again!  Here’s what should be waiting for me tomorrow:

V is for Valiant

  • Archer and Armstrong #2: Yes, please.

  • Bloodshot #3: Blood?  You betcha.  Shot?  Not by a long one.  I’ll happily have another.

I Can See for Miles

  • Ultimate Spider-Man #14: So what if it’s a crossover?  So what if Spider-Men overshadowed it last month?  It’s still pretty good.

Pitching a Shutout

  • Action Comics #0
  • Animal Man #0
  • Dial H #0
  • Swamp Thing #0

I don’t know about this roll out of zero books.  Could be worth a whole lot of nothing.
We’ll certainly see, won’t we?

What are you looking forward to?

My summer vacation is almost over.  Here are the books that will catch my tears.

XOXOXO

  • X-O Manowar #4: Valiant’s armored up and knocking out the big boys.

You Look Marvelous

  • Winter Soldier #9: Lots of Brubaker hubbub this week.  He’s sworn off superheroes–just not this one yet.  Good thing, too: it’s my favorite Marvel book right now.

    Winter Soldier #9 Cover

  • Wolverine and the X-Men #15: Has been beaten up by the A vs.X crossover nonsense as of late, but I expect it to come back to the quirky fun it was built upon–eventually.

America’s Eh Dance Crew

  • The Flash Annual #1:  Not a pull book; but it’s a light week, so what the hell.  Bring on the Rogues, flitches!
  • Justice League #12: The hype might snag me.  If it weren’t such a light week…

What will be in your bag tomorrow?

Looks like I’ve fallen into a pattern: if my research is correct, I’m due for another short stack.  I guess it’s the result of my paring down my pull list and my limiting my off-list purchases; it’s my sticking to what I like and quitting what I don’t.  See: I used to hold out hope for a title when I didn’t like a particular issue or a particularly uninspiring arc.  I’d suffer–and spend–through crap only to end up with crap.  But I sit here today to type to you: no more, friends; no more!  Yes, I will try new things, but rest assured: if I’m buying a book on a regular basis, it’s a good one.

I’m always open to recommendations; in fact, I’m almost to the point where I’m desperate for them!  So if you’re reading something that you think is good, let me know.  I’ll give it a whirl, and then I’ll let you know what I think about it.

OK.  With that out of the way, here are the books I’m looking forward to scoring tomorrow:

The Dream Team

  • Rocketeer #1: Cargo of Doom: Waid and Samnee did a fantastic job goin’ all old school on DD, and, boom!, they’re right back to it with something seriously retro.  I couldn’t give a flying fandango about the Rocketeer; this purchase is all about the hands behind it.

Spooks and Crooks Do Rhyme

  • Justice League Dark #12: I’m under Lemire’s spell.  It compels me to buy anything with his name on it.  Apparently, it’s a difficult spell to master: it’s 22 pages long and it’s freakin’ good.  He’s pretty well got it down; and I’m down with JLD.
  • Super Crooks #4: It’s just Millar being Millar: a decent read clearly scripted for the big screen that isn’t overly concerned with punctuality.

Grant Me a Wish

  • Batman, Inc. #3: I so want this to be quirky, violent fun.  Like breakfast.

I’m Cranky.  I Have Cramps.  Must be JMS.

  • Dr. Manhattan #1: Maybe Nite Owl sucks because Straczynski has been putting all his energy into this one.  (I totally typed that with a straight face–but was cracking up on the inside.)

The Bottle Deposit Buy of the Week

  • Flash #12: I’ve got the whole series so far, but I’ve lost interest.  Why should I bother with this?  Well, Manapul’s art and layouts have stood out; and if they do during a flip-through, I may as well drop some quarters on the counter.

My Digital Mistress

  • Rachel Rising #10: Terry Moore is killing it, and I’m buying it–on Comixology.  I’ve been behind a month because I’ve been waiting for the price to come down before buying it.  I can’t wait anymore.  Really, really good.

That’s what I should find in my bag.  What about you?

What will be in your bag tomorrow?

Azzarello, bag, Captain Marvel, Comedian, comics, Daredevil, Rivera, Robinson, Rorschach, Straczynski, The Shade, Waid, Wonder Woman

Wow!  That week flew by.  And it looks like it flew right into another pretty light week.  Darn.  I was looking forward to a nice haul.  As it is, here’s what should be in my bag come tomorrow:

Azzarello Yeah!

  • Rorschach #1:  No matter which way you look at it, this oughta be good.  And I’m pretty sure–I think you’ll agree–it’ll be better than Straczynski’s wannabe Rorschach book.  Without question, Azzarello’s Comedian has been the only Before Watchmen book worth reading up till now.  Plus, he’s been doing a masterful job on…
  • Wonder Woman #12: Bring it on!

Didn’t Have to Waid Too Long

  • Daredevil #17: I feel like I just finished reading #16.  So what!  Daredevil has been great.  And, as an added bonus, Mike Allred!  Nice.

Here’s to You, Mr. Robinson

  • The Shade #11: Robinson’s work on this book casts a long shadow–one that the other books he’s working on at the moment can’t escape.  While this arc has been uncharacteristically inconsistent, the book still screams snarky fun.

Charity Case

  • Captain Marvel #2: The first issue was wildly inconsistent.  There were some really lame moments; but then there were some brilliant turns that left me wondering where this book might go.  I may pick this up simply because it’s such a light week.

What will be in your bag tomorrow?

Archer & Armstrong, Batman, comics, entertainment, Frankenstein, Ozymandias, Spider-Men, Suicide Squad

Looks like a pretty light week.  Here’s my pull list, broken up into sections pretty much for my own entertainment–unless, of course, you like it, too; then it’s for yours, as well.  I’m always willing to share!

Happy Periods:

Batman #12–> Got my talons deep into this one–and vice versa.

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #12–> Kindt’s sewing together something special.  I’m completely on board.

Archer and Armstrong #1–> Valiant has rolled out some good stuff the last few months.  Why should this be any different?

Checking Out:

Suicide Squad #12–> Was on board big time at first.  But if this one doesn’t do it for me, I’m gone.

In the Short Run:

Spider-Men #4–> The last issue ended well enough, but it’s not like this series counts or anything.  Right?  Ultimately, this is a Bendis/Pichelli purchase.  Thank goodness it’s a limited series.

And a Surprise Visit from the Mother-in-Law:

Ozymandias #2–> It’s not on the ol’ pull list.  If it’s in my bag, so help me…

What are you looking forward to?
